The following information and results were obtained for the search on
"Computer Graphics".

Below are the reasons for using this search
engine.
- Yahoo has eleven international sites that can be accessed to let
you get information for that area. (for example if you wanted
australian sites with info, you would go to the australian Yahoo
site)
- Yahoo was the very first search engine that I ever used, so I feel
more comforable using it.
- Its very easy to use, you can search or you can just use it like a
VL. (using views)
I've complied a help & syntax page for searching in
Yahoo
The actual search Method follows
- For the following searches in Yahoo I did the following
first:
I went to the Yahoo site and followed the "option" link.
Once I was in the option page I selected "Yahoo", my search
method was "An exact phrase match", my search area was "Web
Sites", and I was only finding new listings added during the past
"6 months", as these sites would more than likely still be
up & running.
- So for my search I entered in
"Computer Graphics",
then pressed the search button, and
here are my results.
- I decided to do another search on VRML as it is a topic
within "Computer Graphics"
So my search was on t:VRML and
here are my results.
- I decided to do another search on Virtual Reality as it
was also a topic within "Computer Graphics"
So my search was "Virtual Reality"
and
here are my results.
- I decided to do another one on OpenGL graphics as I felt
that this was a topic within "Computer Graphics"
I changed the option that says "find new listings within 6
months" to
"3 years" as the result with the 6 months option was only 4
hits.
So my search was t:OpenGL and
here are my results.
- I also did the following to search for stuff on "Computer
Graphics".
I just simply followed the index.
- I went to the "Computers and
Internet" link, then to "Graphics", and there I had all
of the topics or categories I needed to look for stuff on "Computer
Graphics".
There was "Clip art", "3D",
"VRML", "Virtual Reality",
"Computer Animation", and lots of others.
Go here to see my result.
- I went to the "Computers and Internet" link, then to
"Graphics", then to "3D", then "software"
Go here to see my result.
It gave me a good idea of what to have in my VL.

Below are the reasons for using this search
engine.
- Over 18 million search queries.
- Yahoo!, Cnet, TechWeb and Law Crawler use AltaVista's power for
their own search functions.
- You can search through AltaVista's entire Web index --
approximately 200 Gigabytes of data -- in less than a second
- There are now 6 international AltaVista Network
Search Sites, enabling me to refine my searching to specific
areas.
- You can refine Your Searches using a number of different
syntax's.
- Its very easy to use.
- It is updated daily.
- There are other reasons why I would choose this search engine but
they are not needed for this search (for example search by host,
domain, etc...)
I've complied a help & syntax page for searching in
AltaVista
The actual search Method follows
- To limit my search I went to the Australian AltaVista Search
site. I also only used the advanced Search page, which
looked like
this
- So for my search I did the following
- My first search was just on Computer Graphics.
Selection Criteria:
title:"Computer Graphics"
Results Ranking Criteria:
pictures
and there was no dates entered into the search.
I then pressed the Submit Advanced Query button, and
here are my results.
- I decided to do a search on VRML as it is a topic
within "Computer Graphics"
So my search was
Selection Criteria:
title:VRML
Results Ranking Criteria:
VRML
A start date had to be entered because I had in excess of 30000
hits for no dates.
So after I placed a start date of
30/july/97
I got a
result that looked like this
- I decided to do another search but this time it was on OpenGL
Graphics.
So my search was
Selection Criteria:
title:OpenGL
Results Ranking Criteria:
3D
A start date had to be entered because I had in excess of 1000
hits for no dates.
This start date helps reduce the number of incorrect or out of date
sites.
So after I placed a start date of
30/july/97
here are my results.
- I did a search on Virtual Reality as it
was also a topic within "Computer Graphics"
So my search was
Selection Criteria:
title:"Virtual Reality"
Results Ranking Criteria:
3D
I also had a start date of
30/july/97
here are my results.
- I decided to do another one on Clip Art as I felt
that this was a topic within "Computer Graphics"
So my search was
Selection Criteria:
title:"Clip Art"
Results Ranking Criteria:
pictures
The start date was
30/july/97
here are my results.

The WWW Virtual Library

Below are the reasons for using this Virtual Library.
- Very easy to use, its views were easy to follow.
- Particular areas in the VL are updated and maintained by people
who are experts in that area.
- The VL is far more useful, due to the care and expertise
that has gone into writing the VL.
I went to the WWW Virtual Library and followed the "Computing" link, once
I was there I tried to go to the "Computer graphics and Visualization"
link, but I was unable to access that site as netscape (ver3) and IE3 gave
back a response saying "The server could be down or is not
responding" or "unable to connect to site, Timed out", so
I couldn't advance to the next view and find information on Computer
Graphics.
